Mission: “To promote wellness of the whole person in body, mind and spirit, within the St. James Episcopal Church Austin congregation and the surrounding East Austin community.”
The East Austin Wellness Center (EAWC) at St. James’ promotes wellness of the whole person, offering affordable services and programs to the East Austin community, including fitness, nutrition, counseling and mental health services and programs.
Several EAWC programs include:
Professional counselors and therapists provide counseling services in both individual and group formats. Fees are affordable and flexible based on the client’s financial need.
Health Education & Screenings
Regular health screenings (i.e. blood pressure testing) and health education programs are provided by a certified nurse.
Care Giver U
In partnership with Austin Groups for the Elderly (AGE), caregivers learn how to care for themselves while taking care of an elderly loved one (spouse, parent, sibling, friend, etc.).
The Happy Kitchen
In partnership with the Sustainable Food Center of Austin, this program offers nutritional education classes to English and Spanish speaking families. Attendees learn how to prepare healthy and affordable meals for their families through hands on cooking demonstrations.
Live Well Series
Health and fitness professionals from diverse medical and fitness backgrounds address various health and fitness issues, exposing attendees to healthier lifestyles through both discussion and active exercises.
This program focuses on body systems and mind connections where participants will learn both the physiology and the mental health aspects of one’s body systems.
