CDF’s mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. The CDF Freedom Schools® Austin program is a direct service initiative coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund in partnership with Welcome Table, Inc. (a local Austin non-profit organization) and the East Austin community. It is an educational and cultural enrichment program that provides summer options for children while strengthening family and community involvement.
The mission of CDF Freedom Schools® Austin program is to boost student motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities. The program serves children ages 6-11 for a six week summer intensive and year-round periodic activities.
Candidates with 2+ years experience in education or youth services can join the team as Assistant Site Coordinator, helping lead the East Austin program in June-July 2024. English-Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.
The Assistant Site Coordinator works with the site coordinator and project director to ensure that scholars are safe and engaged with the proven Freedom Schools curriculum, caregivers are informed and involved, and volunteers and partners are effectively engaged. Click here for more information.
College-age young adults and recent college graduates play a key role in the CDF Freedom Schools® Austin program in the position of Servant Leader Intern. Each CDF Freedom Schools® Austin Servant Leader Intern (SLI) serves as the teacher for a maximum of 10 scholars. English-Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.
